This Speaking September resource bundle was created to provide Core French teachers with practical, classroom-ready oral communication ideas and activities to help you effectively plan your classes for the first month of school! With this toolkit in hand, you can rest easy knowing you have a strong unit that encourages your students to speak authentically about themselves right from the very start of the school year!
Starting the year with a focus on oral communication is key! It allows students to quickly build their vocabulary, as well as become more comfortable and confident speaking a second language. It also creates space for students and teachers to get to know one another better - laying the foundation for a positive and connected classroom community.
There are 6 resources, lessons, and activities included in this package:
1. Le Garçon Franglais / The Frenglish Boy book recommendation (book is not included) and follow-up handout (2 versions provided), where students work in groups to list the pros and cons of being multilingual with the benefits far outweighing the challenges
2. Pourquoi apprendre le français ? 3-part lesson, including YouTube video recommendations, a brainstorming worksheet (2 versions available), and a sticky note activity idea
3. Trouve quelqu'un qui... activities (instructions provided, as well as 3 different versions available for your different classes)
4. Lève-toi si... Google Slides™ Activity (instructions provided, followed by 174 slides available with many different topics/categories covered)
5. Quatre coins Google Slides™ Activity (instructions provided, along with numbered circles to print and stick on the 4 walls of your classroom, followed by 25 different prompts)
6. Je me présente / Tout sur moi - tâches finales - 7 visually engaging templates (all digitally illustrated by me!) available for your different classes for students to draw and write about themselves as a final, end-of-unit task to present to the rest of the class!
I hope this package gives you everything you need to jumpstart meaningful oral communication in your Core French classroom from day one!
